August 14, 2024
Dear Hart Judo Academy Members,
We are excited about the upcoming 2024/25 judo season. Please take a look at the attached Calendar of Events so that you can plan your season accordingly. We would like to encourage you to participate in as many events as possible. We find that our students who participate in more events stick with judo longer and improve much faster. Parental support is very important to the success of our students. Plus, the group of athletes and parents that we have travelling are awesome. You will fit in great with them!!!!
The Hart Judo Academy had another successful season this past year with five athletes qualifying for the BC Team, excellent results at the local tournaments, and nearly 200 members progressed to the next belt. Our goal is to help all of our students get their black belt. After many years of dedication, Steven Chang and Dean Heitman earned their Nidan (or 2nd degree black belts)! Carla Van Zyl won GOLD at the Elite 8 Nationals (invite only) and was named Judo Canada’s Outstanding U18 Female athlete of the year. Carla will be representing Canada at the Cadet World Championships August 28-September 1 in Lima, Peru. KICK SOME BUTT, CARLA! Yannick and Maegan were both 5th at the Canadian Championships this year. At the US Open in Florida this summer, Maegan won GOLD in golden-score competition while Yannick won BRONZE in both golden-score and U18 divisions. Carla won international medals in France, Denmark, Brazil, and Canada.
CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR HARD WORK!
“If I’ve learned nothing else, it’s that time and practice equal achievement.” Andre Agassi.
We will have registration on Tuesday, August 27 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Hart Judo Academy. We look forward to seeing you there. We will also be at the dojo September 5 from 6-8 pm if August 27 doesn’t work for you. We will need your new pre-authorized payment form, what class you will be in, and you can get a new gi if you need one. (we accept cash or cheque for gis) It makes for a smoother transition into the new season if all of the paper work is taken care of ahead of time. Classes resume the week of September 9.
Please find the registration info attached. If you have any questions about registration, please contact us at your convenience.

If you have a friend that is interested in joining judo, we are inviting friends of members to register early as well. Normally, our beginner programs fill up quickly so we want your friends to have first choice to join. Friends of current members can come in early on September 5 from 6-8 pm and register. Our official registra- tion for new members is September 7 and 8 by appointment at the dojo.
Thank you and we look forward to working with you and your families again this year!
Sensei Bruce.
